About us

ABOUT OUR CHAPTER - 206.363.5500 The Western and Central Washington State Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association was incorporated as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization in Washington State in 1978 and merged with the Inland Northwest Chapter in 2015. We were started by family caregivers who came together around a common need of getting support and help for their loved ones with dementia. Our Chapter was one of seven founding chapters of the National Alzheimer's Association, headquartered in Chicago. Today our Chapter serves individuals living with Alzheimer's disease (and related dementias), their families, health care professionals and administrators, and the general public throughout a 23 county service area that runs from the Canadian to the Oregon borders. OUR VISION A world without Alzheimer's disease OUR MISSION To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. You can call us any time of the day or night and get advice and information about the many issues and challenges of caregiving and about dementia. A call to our HelpLine is all it takes. 1.800.272.3900

  • #NationalVolunteerWeek may have come to a close but we still love lifting up our #Volunteers! Don Sweet, a dedicated volunteer from Yakima, embodies the true spirit of selflessness. His days are a symphony of compassion, as he juggles caring for his mother, who battles Alzheimer's disease, alongside his full-time job and his role as the committee chair for the Yakima Walk to End Alzheimer's. "I was fortunate to accompany Don on a day spent traversing the Yakima area, visiting assisted living facilities and community businesses in search of sponsors. Everywhere we went, Don was greeted with warm smiles and heartfelt inquiries about his mother's well-being. It quickly became evident that Don was more than just a familiar face; he was a pillar of the community. His deep connections and genuine concern for others had earned him a reputation akin to that of Yakima's unofficial mayor." - Alzheimer's Association Team Member Behind Don's affable demeanor lies a profound commitment to making a difference. Employed at Yakima Specialties, Don devotes his time to matching individuals with disabilities to jobs that align with their unique skills and abilities. His work is not merely a job but a calling—a testament to his boundless compassion and unwavering dedication to uplifting others. Don's heart is as expansive as the Yakima skyline, and his innate ability to connect with people transcends mere acquaintance, forging lasting bonds wherever he goes. In a world often defined by its challenges, Don Sweet stands as a beacon of hope and kindness, illuminating the path toward a brighter, more compassionate tomorrow. • #NationalVolunteerWeek "I have been involved in one way or another with the ALZ Walk since 2006. Not only was I working for Sunrise Senior Living and spending time with family members whose loved ones were struggling with Alzheimer's and dementia, but my own family was walking the same path with our mother. The Walk was also personal. I volunteer because people need the support which the ALZ Association can offer until we find a cure!" We are so grateful for the dedication to supporting not only the Walk to End Alzheimer's but also the mission to find a cure for this disease! Thank you, Mary, for all that you do! #ENDALZ

  • #NationalVolunteerWeek From her exceptional organizational skills to her unwavering passion, Tanya's a true champion in the fight to end Alzheimer's and an amazing volunteer. She is currently the Engagement Committee Chair for The Longest Day, and has been for the past 4 years. Her dedication to our cause goes beyond words. Tanya's journey with Alzheimer's is deeply personal. After her mom's diagnosis, she became a full-time caregiver and left her job to provide love and support. Her resilience in the face of adversity inspires us all. But Tanya's commitment doesn't stop there. She's a beacon of hope for others, sharing her experiences and offering guidance to fellow caregivers through support groups. Her strength and compassion shine through every interaction. She's also began raising her voice through advocacy and supporting community outreach. For Tanya, volunteering isn't just about giving back—it's a tribute to her mom, her hero. Through her efforts, she honors her mother's selflessness and kindness, ensuring that no one faces Alzheimer's alone. “My most important inspiration is my mom. She is the most wonderful woman I've ever known in so many ways. Alzheimer's has robbed her of so much. But it has not taken her strength, sense of humor, or her beautiful spirit. It never will.” Thank you, Tanya, for your incredible service and unwavering dedication. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by Alzheimer's. #NationalVolunteerWeek #EndAlz 💜
