Nearly two dozen WPRS employees took part in an after-work social networking event in Richland last week. The WRPSpeed event took place at Salud, where coworkers mingled and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and conversation. WRPSpeed is a WRPS-sponsored employee engagement organization open to all employees. The organization strives to focus on connecting, volunteering, and growing.

The company’s focus is transferring waste from aging single-shell tanks into newer double-shell tanks where it will be stored until it is prepared for disposal. WRPS’ commitment includes doing the job safely with a strong focus on innovation, employee involvement and environmental protection. WRPS is a limited liability corporation (LLC) owned by AECOM and Atkins, with AREVA as its primary subcontractor. This partnership brings decades of experience to the job, which is considered one of the most complex cleanup projects in the nation. WRPS is committed to supporting programs and projects that advance educational and economic development opportunities in the region as well as those that enhance the quality of life. The future of the Tri-Cities area is bright, and WRPS is excited to be involved and help it grow to realize its full potential.

WRPS employees and some of their family members supported the Kadlec Tri-Cities Cancer Center’s Cancer Crushing Challenge over the weekend. More than 900 people signed up to run and walk the 5K and 10K races along Richland’s George Washington Way and the riverfront trail, before crossing the finish line at Howard Amon Park. WRPS is honored to be the title sponsor for the event since it first began three years ago.

Pelicans are just one of many migratory bird species that make their home at the Hanford Reach. Protecting the river so they have a safe place to live is one of WRPS' top priorities. You can help by planting native flowers, shrubs, and trees that provide habitats for migratory birds and the insects they eat. Happy World Migratory Bird Day!

Born and raised in Richland, the Tri-Cities is exactly where Aaron likes to be. He has four children and a Shih Tzu named Eddie. He joined WRPS in 2015 and is approaching nearly 10 years with our organization. As a nuclear chemical operator, Aaron is part of the Tank Farm Projects field crew that performs video inspections in tanks, annuluses, and liquid observation wells. They also support tank pump replacements, and other field operations activities. “I enjoy supporting the cleanup mission while representing my fellow co-workers”. Aaron is the Treasurer and Unit President of United Steel Workers Local 12-369. When he’s not managing union duties, he’s traveling the region in his motor home and play softball. Aaron has played games in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Nevada! Thank you, Aaron, for all you do helping advance the cleanup mission! #WorkforceWednesday #WeAreWRPS

It might not have been Las Vegas, Nevada, but it sure looked flashy and fun during the Junior Achievement Bowling Classic! WRPS employees made up 22 teams that participated in the Vegas-themed fundraiser. Thank you to those who bowled, donated, and cheered each other on to raise money to supporting Junior Achievement of Washington. What a hoot!

The WRPS Integrated Strategic Improvement Plan has three elements, People, Plant, and Processes. This month we’ll look at the Processes element, and in particular, the Causal Analysis System, as part of our Safe Mission Delivery initiative.

A team of five students from the Washington State University Pullman campus recently presented WRPS engineers and nuclear chemical operators with progress they’ve made on a liquid grab sampling device. The group was tasked with developing a tool that can help field crews more safely and efficiently collect liquid samples, which are used to monitor waste composition at the Hanford Site. The sampler is one of multiple WSU Capstone projects that WRPS sponsors. During the capstones, WSU students work under the mentorship of WRPS engineers to address a real-world need outside of the classroom.

Originally from San Clemente, California, Justin moved to the Tri-Cities in the early 2000’s. He graduated from Columbia Basin College with a degree in project management, which helped him land an entry-level Project Controls position with WRPS in 2015. He’s now the Functional Organization Project Controls manager. “I love the WRPS team. I have never worked in a team environment like this before. Everyone has excellent communication with one another and passion for what they do.” At home, Justin enjoys spending time with his wife, Kimmie, who also works at WRPS. They have a son, Camden, and several pets including cats, dogs, crabs, and fish! Even more impressive than his number of pets is his number of comic books. Justin has been collecting comics and memorabilia since he was six years old. In his “Nerd Room”, he possesses over 4,000 comic books and around 1,000 statues and figures! He also attends geek culture-related conventions like Comic-Con. Thank you, Justin, for all you do helping advance the cleanup mission! #WeAreWRPS #WorkforceWednesday

It’s official! WRPS presented United Way of Benton and Franklin Counties with the total sum of the 2023 annual fundraising campaign! Last’s year’s campaign raised $200,501.40, far exceeding our goal of $180,000. Every cent went straight to UWBFCO to aid its mission and other local nonprofits it supports. Thank you to all who contributed time or money to help make the 2023 campaign a success. We could not be prouder of our workforce, which invests in the community through both generous giving, and the work we do advancing the cleanup mission. #WRPSGives
