MCCM was honored to be interviewed by Beth Housewert of Inspired Impact as part of an emerging children's museums project. We love to learn from those who came before us, and have been humbled by the network of children's museums nationwide who have shared their journeys with us and offered advice. When asked what one of our best moments was from the last year of working to bring a children's museum to the Tri-Cities community, we immediately thought of our success with the MCCM Monster Mash 5k & Creature Crawl 1k last October! The success of the Monster Mash is due to our amazing team, and our generous community. It also speaks volumes to the community's desire for this project to happen! Fun fact: Our team's goal for this event was to have 100 participants for our inaugural fundraiser. We had over 450 participants with us on that cold October morning! Thank you to our community, our community partners, and our sponsors for this event! Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) TradeWind Services LLC J.R. Was it really just about the fundraising??? This emerging museum would argue that it was WAY MORE than just $$. Take a peek at Mid-Columbia Children's Museum. I recently interviewed Beth Crocker and Chelsea Blair for a little Emerging Museums project I'm working on and they quickly jumped at the chance to tell me about their success of holding a 5K for their community. The intention was to raise some funds for their new 501c3 and from what I see.... they got WAY MORE than just $$! Here's a few of the many takeaways they gleaned from the event (in their words): 1. Trust your team! We are very fortunate to have a highly capable team who majorly stepped up to the plate! 2. Partner with your community! We asked other child/education-centric nonprofits to join us for this event and they helped us make it a huge success. 3. Don’t be afraid to dream big! We locked in the event necessities, but brainstormed ideas that we could act on 4. Ask for help! We were overwhelmed by the support of the community and local businesses. From larger sponsorships, to donated photography services and everything in between- all of the expenses for the event were covered by the generosity of our community. GOLD!! I love how the team at Mid-Columbia Children's Museum rallied together and also was so thoughtful about their debrief of their 5K event. It's definitely a shining star in their own list of community events. #communitybuilding #fRIENDraisers #fUNdraisers #inspiredimpact
